3 AR men injured in gun battle

Imphal, July 04 2012:
At least three AR jawans of 24 Assam Rifles reportedly sustained injuries in a fierce gun battle with PLA cadres near the Satang Border Pillar no.84 of Indo-Myanmar Border under Moreh Police Station in Chandel district.
PRO IGAR (S), however, claimed that only two personnel received minor injuries in the incident.
Villagers of surrounding villages said that the gun battle continued from from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm in the night.
According to information received by Hueiyen Lanpao, the AR column patrolling along the border area from Khongna Leibi to Satang was attacked by well armed PLA cadres by using guns and bombs.
The AR unit also retaliated with guns and bombs.
In the ensuing gun-battle, three AR personnel got injured.
Terrified villagers could not come out of their houses hearing heavy gun-firing.
Unconfirmed report said that two AR personnel including a Meetei are still traceless.
Meanwhile, the proscribed revolutionary organisation Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) in a press statement claimed that the attack was carried out by armies of the Tactical Command of its armed wing People's Liberation Army (PLA) .
The statement said that they have confirmed after intercepting the radio messages of the AR unit that there were many casualties in the AR unit and an ambulance and three vehicles full of AR personnel are waiting at a nearby village to retrieve the injured personnel.
PLA is waiting for chances to attack again the AR units which are stationed in the nearby areas very soon, it added.
