Veterinary employees' union defers stir

In view of the present COVID-19 situation and on learning report of government considering the union's demand, All Manipur Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Field Assistant Employees' Union has deferred its proposed agitation till June 11.The union had earlier planned to launch agitation including closure of dispensary hospitals, dispensary and livestock farms from June 7 .
The union has been demanding appointment of an appropriate officer with technical background as director of veterinary and animal husbandry department as per Manipur Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Service Rules, 1994 .
In a statement, union general secretary Ashok Kumar said that the decision of the union taken during the May 9 and 28 meetings will remain unchanged and launch intense agitation if government fails to fulfil demands of the union.
The union will launch agitation from June 14 if government fails to fulfil the demands at the earliest.
Expressing resentment over possession of land belonging to veterinary and animal husbandry department by other departments, Ashok Kumar said that the department's land at Porompat including poultry farm, fodder demonstration farm and national demonstration unit have been allotted to JNIMS while the duck farm at Thenggu Ching- jin has been procured by 7 IRB.
Department's land at Tamenglong and Ukhrul district headquarters too have been procured by other departments, Ashokumar lamented, while adding that department's land Sanjenthong too is under the possession of agriculture and horticulture departments.
