Date fixed for MLA's hearing

Imphal, October 26 2018: Special Court, NIA, has fixed October 29 for the hearing of the bail application filed by Saikul MLA, Yamthong Haokip, through his counsel for releasing him on bail on medical grounds.

The bail hearing was fixed after the medical status report was submitted before the Court today evening, by the authority concerned of JNIMS.

The bail application was filed by the counsel of MLA Yamthong Haokip in the early part of October stating that Yamthong Haokip is a heart patient and he requires proper medical observation.

Earlier, the Court had called for an objection report from the investigating agency, NIA, in connection with the bail application, apart from calling for a medical status report from JNIMS where the MLA is presently lodged.

Mention may be made that on October 23, Special Court, NIA, had rejected the application filed by NIA for collecting the voice recording of Yamthong Haokip after it found no jurisdiction for granting the application.

The MLA has been lodged in judicial custody under medical observation at JNIMS hospital security ward since August 24 in connection with his alleged involvement in the arms and ammunition missing case of 2nd Manipur Rifles arms kote.

It may be mentioned that the MLA was arrested a few days after the NIA conducted a two day raid at his Mantripukhri residence (on July 30 and 31) in connection with the case.

On the first day of the raid, Yamthong Haokip was rushed to Sky Hospital for treatment after his health deteriorated and on the next day, he was taken to New Delhi for further treatment in an air ambulance before he was formally arrested by NIA in connection with the case.

Out of the 12 individuals arrested in connection with the arms missing case, 8 persons were charge sheeted by the NIA and one Rifleman was acquitted after the NIA submitted before the Court that no concrete evidence was found against the said Rifleman.

The charge sheet further informed that further investigation was underway against MLA Yamthong Haokip, KRA chief David Hangsing and Thokchom Diamond.

Yesterday, Special Court NIA had directed Imphal East DC to do the needful to enable the one of the accused, Haobam Brojendro (who is under NSA detention) to be produced before the Court and had also fixed the charge hearing of the accused individuals on November 14 .
