Tree plantation drive conducted

Stating that felling of trees in large scale will only escalate the ecological imbalance this planet is witnessing, CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam on Wednesday urged all to take part in addressing global warming by planting more trees.
The Minister was speaking on the opening ceremony of tree plantation campaign at Narankonjin under Langthabal AC, Imphal West.
Natural calamities the State faced in the past few years including drought this year are consequences of felling trees in large scale, he said appealing all to plant more trees and conserve forest areas to mitigate climate change and stop further environment degradation.
K Shyam then lauded the Narankonjin Co-ordinating Club for organising the tree plantation campaign at Heibok Ching, which is located on the bank of Chandranadi river.
The place has historic, he said stating that two rivers - Leishang Hiden and Chandranadi were used as waterways during the reign of King Gambhir Singh.
The Minister also lauded all including youths who came out to participate in the event.
Over 360 saplings were planted during the programme.
