CADA celebrates 13th foundation day

Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) observed its 13th foundation day at Manipur Press Club Imphal on Wednesday.
Head of Department of Psychiatry RIMS Professor Dr RK Lenin, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar, social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and Additional SP Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB) Thounaojam Brinda attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Dr RK Lenin said that children under the age group 10 to 17 are prone to drugs/substance abuse.
In India, the magnitude of substance abuse among children between the age 10 and 17 is surpassing 1 percent, he said emphasising that strict regulations are required to curb drug abuse.

Even though the State is known to outside world for sports and its rich art & culture, drugs and alcohol abuse pose grave threat to the future of its youths, he said urging guardians, parents and all stakeholders including the community to give proper awareness about ill effects of drug abuse.
Drug supply and demand reduction is required to address the menace of drug abuse, he added.
Talking about the campaigns CADA has been undertaking since its establishment, its president Hijam Priyokumar said that curbing drugs and alcohol abuse require collective efforts of all stakeholders.
Identifying alcohol as one main reason for many issues society is facing today, he said that Government and law enforcing agencies should strictly enforce the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 .
