CM inspects construction of sports infrastructure

Chief Minister N Biren has said that the installation of flood lighting system at Main Stadium and Hockey Stadium at Khuman Lampak, construction of artificial football turf at Langjing Achouba and upgradation of Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium are likely to be completed by December this year.
Talking to media persons, Biren said that Manipur is a football-loving State and now, it has an International-standard natural grass football pitch at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium and an artificial turf ground at RAU Ground, Khurai.

He further said that apart from the artificial football turf being developed at Langjing Achouba, the Government is actively considering to construct some more artificial turf grounds in other districts as well.
Regarding the installation of flood lighting system, N Biren expressed hope that the people of the State will most likely get to see matches being played under flood light by December this year.
He informed that bored piling works for erection of towers are nearing completion while almost all the materials, except some poles, have already reached Imphal.
As per an agreement with the private company concerned, installation should be completed by March next year.
However, the Government has been constantly pressing them to complete the work by December this year, the Chief Minister said while adding that the Government has also set the same target for the completion of upgrading Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium and construction of gallery at RAU Ground as well.
The Chief Minister also said that he had directed the Director (YAS) to take up immediate steps to make Khuman Lampak Sports complex a plastic free zone and maintain cleanliness.
The total approved cost of installation of flood lighting systems at Main Stadium and Hockey Stadium at Khuman Lampak is Rs 35.31 crore while the approved costs of laying artificial turf at Langjing Achouba and upgradation of Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium are Rs 10.14 crore and Rs 11.14 crore respectively.
Commissioner (YAS) Bobby Waikhom and Director (YAS) Harmit Singh Pahuja also accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection.
