Legal literacy programme

One day legal literacy and awareness programme was jointly organized by Imphal West District Legal Services Authority and Kwakeithel Women Self Help Group at the Community Hall of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai today.
The programme was presided over by M Somokanta Singh, Rtd.
Director of Civil Defence Dept., Manipur with M Manojkumar Singh, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East as Chief Guest and Khumanthem Gomati Devi, Rtd.
District and Session Judge and A Gunaeshwar Sharma, Member Secretary of Manipur State Legal Service Authority as Guests of Honour.
Meihoubam Rakesh, Advocate and Director of Human Rights Law Network (Manipur); Ch Momon Singh, Advocate and Ng Tajkumar Singh, Public Prosecutor-cum-Government Advocate were among the resource persons who spoke at the programme.
Speaking on the topic, "Right to Food, RTI and Rights of Electric consumers", Meihoubam Rakesh elaborated on the existing Public Distribution System (PDS), Ration Cards, Consumer Court, Legal Aid Clinics, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guaranteed Scheme, etc.
He also stressed on the process and steps to acquire information through Right to Information (RTI) Act, as well as on various issues related to electricity and steps to overcome them.
Ch Momon Singh and Ng Tajkumar Singh spoke on the topics "Right to education and Arrest and Detention" and "Crime against Women and Drug" respectively.
