Imphal, July 01 2011:
Even though the state government has computerized the records and working of the Employment Exchange to enable an error free and a fast working system, the State Employment Exchange is giving much hardship to the job seekers of the state due to inadequacy of its staff and frequent failure of internet facility.
It may be mentioned that the staff exchange office were given basic computer training for a short period in the Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat Imphal to enable them to handle computers and the new system which need pertinent knowledge of computing and internet handling.
However the short period of training provided to them has turned out to be the main reason behind the inadequacy of the staff in handling the computer systems.
Job seekers of the state who came to the office to register their names as job seekers in the state government's record or renew their registration often return frustrated due to frequent failures of the computer system and the inadequacy of staff.
Very often they wait for a whole day or two only to be told by a staff member that their registration or renewal could not be done due to internet failure.
Moreover the inability of the staff to handle the computer system properly often delay the registration or renewal process even though there is not a single problem of internet failure.
Even if there was a failure in the internet, no one in the office made any effort to repair the failure by calling the service provider.
In such a situation job seekers began to raise their voice telling the staff that the erstwhile style of working was far much better than the computerized system.
According to an official of the exchange office, the problem of frequent internet failure could only be solved after installation of a tower for the office only which can provide uninterrupted internet service.
However, the matter has still remains a remote dream since the office is a small department which cannot afford the installation of such a tower.
Moreover the short training provided to the staff is not sufficient for the staff to enable them to handle the system at ease.
It takes four to five minutes to type a sentence since they do not have the skill of typing and other computer basics.
In such situation, the concerned department should pay greater attention and make its staff efficient in handling the new system, the official added.
