Imphal, January 23 2013:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today informed that he would be meeting the members of Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC), who are carrying out public blockades in Kuki inhibited areas in pursuance of their demand for a separate Kuki State.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inaugural function of the 3-day long 2nd State Level Tribal Cultural Festival at Tribal Research Institute (TRI) today, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that he would be meeting the members of KSDC who are hell bent on disintegrating the State by demanding a separate Kuki State to be carved out from the present State of Manipur.
The Chief Minister further informed that the demands of the public, whatsoever they may be, can be sorted out through peaceful talks.
Instead of doing any good, imposing bandhs and blockades will only do harm to the State and its people.
So these sorts of agitations should be replaced by some other means.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, while replying to a query also stated that whether it is by the Nagas or the Kukis, or whoever, calling of blockade and bandh is not the right approach and it should be avoided.
He pointed out that any attempt to disturb the present State boundary is not the right option.
There is the rule of law in the State.
Burning of National flag and chasing out non-Kukis from areas dominated by Kukis is against the law of the land and the State government would take up all necessary steps to control such situation.
Furthermore, Gaikhangam pointed out that since the Union Home Ministry has decided to start political dialogue with the Kuki UG groups, there is nothing to make an issue at this point of time.
If at all there is any dissatisfaction, it can be brought up and discussed.
Disturbing peace and tranquility in the State would not be tolerated at any cost, he warned.
