Security operations ahead of HM's visit

Imphal, May 09 2011:
Imphal West police commandos detained at least 36 youths aged between from 15 to 45 years during mopping operations in bazar areas of Imphal city today.
The operations were conducted as part of intensification of security measures on the eve of the visit of the Union Home Minister Tuesday.
The state has received a final tour programme for the visit of the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram today.
As per the final programme, the Home Minister will arrive tomorrow around 6 pm by a special BSF Embracer Aircraft at Imphal airport.
Separate meetings with Governor and Chief Minister will be held on the first day of his arrival.
On the next day, he will proceed to Ukhrul to inaugurate the mini secretariat building.
He will address a public meeting there, as per the programme.
A MI-17 helicopter of the BSF has been kept in reserve for the Home Minister's visit to Ukhrul.
Since this depends on weather conditions, elaborate security arrangements have been made along the Imphal-Ukhrul road, sources said.
In connection with beefing up security measures ahead of the Home Minister's visit, mopping operations were conducted at Paona bazar and Governor Road.
The operation at Governor Road was conducted between 11.15 am and 12.30 pm under the supervision of DSP, S Ibomcha after cordoning off the Governor road from Indra Colour Studio to Diamond Galli.
Another operation after cordoning Paona bazar Road from Indra Colour to Friends Talkies was conducted from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
A large contingent of police commandos conducted the mopping up operations.
In it, at least 36 youths were picked up for verification.
After verification was conducted at City PS complex, they were released, source said.
Though there were no specific input, militants are likely to trigger bombs during the Home Minister's stay in Imphal, the source disclosed recalling the triggering of a high power bomb during President Pratibha Devi Singh Patel's visit.
