Imphal, February 09 2021:
Even as Chief Minister N Biren urged the striking teachers to give the Government 3-4 months time to implement the 7th UGC Pay, the All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) has announced that they will also launch a cease work strike from February 22 in pursuance of the same demand.
Addressing reporters at Manipur Press Club today AMCTA president M Lokendro Singh said they association have been demanding the 7th UGC pay for college teachers since July 13, 2019.The Government had given assurance three times in November 2019, February 2020 and the last one in August 2020 to pay the same.
However the Government has not taken up any action to implement the same even after 6 months of approval of the 7th UGC Pay, which amounts to not taking the demands of the college teachers seriously, he rued.
AMCTA had been staying silent on the matter to avoid disturbance in the academic atmosphere with the hope that the Govt will take up the necessary steps, but this has been taken as a sign of weakness, he added.
As the Government has stayed silent on the matter even after such a long time, AMCTA has decided to commence a cease work strike from February 22, he added.
