Anti drug campaign, candle rally held

In continuation of the fight against drug smuggling and substance abuse, the Wangoo Apunba Meira paibi lup and Wangoo Sandangkhong Covid-19 Relief Committee, jointly organised a one day "Anti drug campaign" at Wangoo Parking Bazard under Kumbi AC of Bishnupur district, yesterday.
The programme was attended by Kumbi AC ex-MLA, S Bira; Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president, L Memchoubi; MPAL president, L Thamballeima; AMUCO president, Nando Luwang; UCOBID president, Th Norendro; Wangoo Apunba Meira Paibi Lup president, Laishram Sanghaimani; Wangoo police station OC, T Meino; Kumbi police station OC, Kailong Sciminthang; Wangoo Gram Panchayat Pradhan; Borayangbi Gram Panchayat Pradhan; representatives of CSOs and students.

Attending the programme as resource persons, L Krishnachandra, social activist; Dr IS Konthoujam and Dr Khundarkpam Nimo, senior lecturer Department of Mechanical Engineering NIT, delivered lectures on the types of drugs, effects of drugs on society and the means to control drug abuse and substance addiction.
Addressing the programme, L Memchoubi highlighted the importance of providing awareness on the ill effects of drugs to the children, to prevent them from falling prey to the temptations of drugs.
Nando Luwang mentioned that the fight against drugs and substance abuse is vital to protect the future generation as most of the cases of criminal activities are related to drugs.
S Bira stated that such awareness programmes should be conducted frequently to spread awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse.
It is high time that every local club and organisation join hands in the fight against drug abuse to protect the youth of the State and steer them towards a better and successful future, he added.
Meanwhile, as a part of the fight against drugs, a 'Candle Rally' was organised yesterday on the theme 'Drug Free State' under the supervision of District Administration Bishnupur at Bishnupur district.
The rally attended by about 100 youths from the various villages of Moirang went from Advance Intermediate College Moirang to Tiddim Road.
Speaking to media persons, Director Childline Bishnupur, L Pishak stated that the rally was organised as a part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign.
The candles were lit to bring hope for a better future for the people of the State.
The director further appealed to the people to extend their support and assistance in the fight against drugs and pave the way for a drug free and healthy society.
Slogans including 'Drug Free Manipur', 'Say No to Drugs', 'Darkness to Light through Candle Lighting' , 'Zero Down Drug Abuse', etc were raised during the rally.
