Tongjei Maril to be repaired under NEC

Tongjei Maril (Old Cachar) road, which could serve as an important Highway connecting the State with Silchar in Assam via Nungba is all set to be repaired at an estimated cost of Rs 141 crores to be funded by North Eastern Council (NEC) .
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at his official residence at Lamphelpat today, MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai informed that the assurance to repair Tongjei Maril (Old Cachar) road at an estimated cost of Rs 141 crores by NEC was given to him by PKH Singh, Advisor of NEC during an inspection visit of the roads and bridges in Tamenglong district on February 26 last.
The inspection visit was also accompanied by Token, Chief Additional Engineer of PWD, SE Shanti and other top officials of the PWD.
The team inspected the existing condition of Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong road.
During the course of the inspection visit, Advisor of NEC was impressed with the progress of the construction process along Tamenglong to Tamei and said that NEC would be will to sanction more funds if the earlier sanctioned funds were utilized in the most accurate manner, the MLA recalled.
The MLA said that PKH Singh also conveyed that construction work along Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong road would be completed during the 12th Five Year Plan and an amount of Rs 145 crores has been already been sanctioned by NEC for the said purpose.
Apart from this, an amount of Rs 141 crores would be sanctioned shortly for repairing the Tongjei Maril (Old Cachar) road, which would become one of the most important Highways of the State leading to Silchar via Nungba.
He also informed that a free health mela was conducted under the aegis of the District Rural Health Mission, Tamenglong on March 1 and 2 at the playground of Apao Kading High School under the theme "Health for All".
In the said health mela, villagers from 40 villages under Tamei Sub-division came to avail the medical facilities.
