Book Fair: Sale and purchase of books increase this year

In comparison to previous years, sale and purchase of books in the 10th Imphal Book Fair, which is currently underway at State Central Library complex here, has recorded considerably increase this time.
The book fair, which is being jointly organised by National Book Trust, New Delhi, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata and the State Central Library will conclude tomorrow.
In all 18 book firms from outside the state and another 30 local book firms are participating in the book fair.
Among the book firms from outside, 8 are from Delhi, 5 from Kolkata, 4 from Guwahati and 1 from Silchar.
There are altogether 205 stalls opened in the book fair.
Different varieties of books ranging from lower classes to master level and books of scholars are being put up for display and sale in the book fair.
But unfortunately many of the students who came to the fair in search of competitive examination books have to go back home in despair.
Speaking to this reporter, S Tampakleima, Chief Librarian, State Central Library, said that the book fair is organised under the sponsorship of National Book Trust.
This year the State Central Library did not have to face much difficulty in organizing the fair as in previous years.
With altogether 205 stalls opened in the fair, the book fair is running smoothly.
The stalls are charged a meagre amount of Rs 1555.Last year stall owners were made to pay a much higher amount.
Moreover, the number of people coming to the book fair recorded an increase of 50% higher than last year and there is a district of 10% on every purchase from any stalls in the fair, she said.
B Rajen Sharma, Manager of Jagat Mata Book Store told this reporter that unlike previous years, this year the organizers have provided drinking water to the stall owners.
They have also carpeted the stall.
A daily sale of books this year crosses Rs 5000 compared to last year which hanged at Rs 2000.The number of buyers has also increased with not less than 1000 visitors thronging his stall daily.
Students visiting the stalls expressed desire on the part of the organizers to come up with two book fairs in a year.
