Academic awareness campaign held at Jehovah Jireh English School, Thamnapokpi

Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA), as part of its ongoing campaign to curb the menace of substance abuse and alcoholism in different parts of the State, organized an academic awareness programme at Jehovah Jireh English School, Thamnapokpi in Bishnupur District on the theme "Impact of illicit drugs and alcoholism on students community" at around 10 am today.
The academic awareness programme was attended by Pukhrambam Naocha, Director, Jehovah Jireh English School; Ningthoujam Doren, Vice-President, CADA and Huiningsungbam (o) Basanti, President, CADA Bishnupur District Committee as presidium members while Geetchandra Mangang, Secy Gen CADA attended as resource person.
Speaking at the occasion, resource person Geetchandra Mangang said that using tobacco products is considered as a gateway towards the world of using illicit drugs and other intoxicants and nobody starts taking heroin no 4 or other contraband items right away.
They first begin chewing pan with tobacco and then starts consuming other tobacco products like Talap, Shikhar etc, and their appetite for other deadly drugs and intoxicants gradually increases and became addicted to it, he added.
He continued that consuming tobacco products and indulging in illicit drugs, alcohols, intoxicants etc, only cause harm to the body and is one of the root causes for the hosts of issues among the students community like lower academic performances, totally disoriented from their future goals, degradation of health and early death.
As such, we should never to try to indulge in any kind of drugs, alcohols, tobacco products and other banned substances to lead a meaningful and purposeful life, he concludes.
