Imphal, June 28 2012:
In tune with the decision adopted at the general council meeting of North East Students' Organisation (NESO) to stage protest in front of all Raj Bhawans of the North East States, students in Manipur are all set to agitate in front of Raj Bhawan tomorrow.
Announcing this to media, Thokchom Suresh, President of AMSU said that NESO had time and again approached the Prime Minister of India to safeguard the students of North East studying in other parts of the country so that they could study peacefully without any fear.
NESO had also submitted a seven-point charter of demands in this connection to the PM.
However, the Central government has not taken up any appropriate measures in this regard.
Feeling dejected, NESO organized a mass agitation in Shillong on June 7 and in continuation of that, all the student organizations in North East States, which are part of NESO, will organize a mass sit-in-protest in front of the Raj Bhawan of their respective states tomorrow, Suresh informed.
He informed that the demands of NESO include institution of a Special Education Commission for North East, removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, re-implementation of Inner Line Permit, implementation of a policy whereby all the grade II and IV staffs of all the Central institutions in the NE states could be allocated to the people of the NE itself, solve the problems of all the state boundaries in NE, prevent Bangladesh from encroaching into the land of North East region, institution of a Special Constitution of NE and the preparation of a separate time zone for the NE, etc.
Thokchom Suresh also appealed to all the CSOs, NGOs and the general public to support the agitation, which will be carried under the aegis of AMSU tomorrow.
