Bandh affects normal life in Chandel district

Chandel, June 26 2019:
The indefinite bandh called in all parts of Chandel district including Chandel-Moreh road, against the "unlawful" activity and violation of Lamkang customary laws by exhuming and charring the remains of founder and ex-chief of Challong village D Thamnok by unknown miscreants, began on the midnight of June 25 by Lamkang Chiefs Association (LCA) Chandel.
The indefinite Chakka bandh was called along Pallel-Chandel road and Pallel-Moreh highway in protest against the heinous crime and demanding the arrest of perpetrators who desecrated and dismantled the grave of Late D Thamnok Lamkang on June 15 at Challong Village Cemetery.
Petter Lamkang, Chief Spokesperson of Lamkang Chiefs' Association (LCA) said that Late D Thamnok Lamkang died on May 18 at Riverlane village, DHQs Chandel.
The mortal remains of Late D Thamnok Lamkang was brought to his native village, Challong on the next day and was laid to rest on May 20 by carrying out full customary rites at Challong's Village Cemetery.
On June 15, when his wife Sk Shomlun visited his grave, the mortal remain of Late D Thamnok grave was desecrated and the coffin which contains the mortal remain went missing.
Perpetrators who committed the heinous crime also dismantled the grave and burned down the cemented tomb of Late D Thamnok, Peter conveyed.
Shomlun lodged an FIR on June 19 at Tengnoupal Police station following the unfortunate incident.
According to source, Tengnoupal SP, Kakching SP and DIG Kabiv met LCA leaders at around 10 in the morning.
The team later went to talk the problem with Chandel DC .
