Womenfolk storm Kangla to protest against AFSPA

Demanding immediate repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Manipur, around 50 womenfolk who came from different directions in auto rickshaws protested in front of western Kangla Fort gate in the heart of Imphal around 12:30 pm today.
While storming at the Kangla gate, the women folk alleged that under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 hundreds of innocent civilians, including women and children have been tortured and killed by the central military forces who misuse their power under the Act.
The protestors also shouted slogans like "Repeal AFSPA, 1958" and expressed their disappointment with Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh who has failed to fulfill his promise of uprooting the draconian act from Manipur even after the verbal assurance was given by him to the people when he had visited the state.
The angry and furious protestors were kept under control by the women police after minutes of scuffle between the two.
On the other hand, demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the State before January 26, Peoples' Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) along with Manipur Rickshaw Driver Pullers' Association launched black badge campaign today at various rickshaw parking and Ema Keithel.
Taking part in the campaign, Paonam Ibemu, secretary of Khwairamband Keithel Semgat Sagat Lup stated that people of the State have been protesting against the Act since its imposition so it must be repealed from the State without any hesitation.
