Maibam Manojkumar, Session Judge, Imphal West today, sentenced one Md Ithemba alias Juma Khan to jail for a year, apart from ordering him to pay up Rs 5000 as fine, in connection with an extortion case which took place around 15 years ago.
Th Court also acquitted another individual, identified as one Md Rajaoddin alias Ithemcha from the case.
The order was announced today after it was kept reserved from November 21 .
The case began against the two individuals from August 2004 and as per the prosecution's submission, on August 13, 2004, the complainant of the case was at his house along with two relatives, when three unknown individuals, who identified themselves as PULF cadres, entered the residence and demanded them to pay tax for their truck.
One of the unknown individuals even took out a revolver and threatened to kill the complainant.
However the person with the revolver was quickly apprehended thereafter and identified as Md Ithemba alias Juma Khan s/o Md Salam Khan of Yairipok Shikhong Thangthabi.
Ithemba (19 years at the time) was handed over to Iribung PS but the two other miscreants involved in the incident managed to escape.
Eventually, the two other associates, identified as one Md Akbar and Md Rajaoddin alias Itemcha alias Khajing (then 22 years old) s/o Md Kheiruddin of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai were arrested.
After completing the investigation, the IO of the case submitted the necessary charge sheets against the three individuals in the Court of CJM Imphal East.
While the case was pending, Md Akbar perished.
The case was then committed before the Court of Session Judge, Imphal West on April 24 last year.
Today, after going through all the materials on record, the Court sentenced Md Ithemba to one year in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 on him explaining that he has to undergo one more month imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
