Training on augmenting reproductive efficiency of dairy cattle held

A training programme for professionals on augmenting reproductive efficiency of dairy cattle and Mithun with special reference to health was organized on Friday by the Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur at the conference hall of the state Veterinary Council, Sanjenthong in Imphal.
Giving the keynote address of the training programme, Dr L Sharat Kumar, Joint Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur, said the reproductive efficiency in livestock particularly dairy cattle and Mithun is an important attribute as far as the dairy farmers are concerned.
He said the profit and loss of a farm depends largely on reproductive efficiency and it is a multi-allelic trait controlled by a number of genes and the reproductive efficiency, on the other hand, is controlled by a number of factors.A more important factor is the negative effect of disease on conception rate so good health for dairy cattle and Mithun is very important for augmenting their reproductive efficiency, he added.
DR KK Baruah, Principal Scientist, National Research Centre (NRC) on Mithun, Nagaland spoke at the technical session of the programme on the topic "Strategies for Augmentation of Reproductive Efficiency in Dairy Cattle and Mithun" .
DR S Mukherjee, Scientist, NRC on Mithun, Nagaland spoke on the topic "Perspectives of Cattle Breeding in India and Strategies of Mithun Genetic Improvement, while DR V Singh, Scientist, NRC on Mithun, Nagaland spoke on the topic "Epidemiology of Animal Diseases in North-East Region (NER) Perspectives and Strategies" .
Dr N Prakashji, Joint Director, ICAR Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal and Dr Saidokhum Joute, Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur attended the programme as chief guest and president respectively.
