Text books supply from May 15: Govt

Admitting the delay in supply of free text books to school children, Education Department (S) has assured that supply will start from May 15 and will be completed
by June 15 .
A statement of the principal secretary (Education-S), Dr J Suresh Babu, said that government is equally concerned about the delay in supply of free text books to school children.
"The government with the intention to supply good quality books wanted to print the books on watermark paper.
Due to inability of the paper, the process of printing has been slightly delayed," the statement asserted.
Further, it said that the government has entrusted the work of printing to the Board of Secondary Education.
The BOSEM has engaged 62 printing presses in and around Imphal to expedite the printing in time.
The statement said that the government assures that the supply will start from May 15 and will be completed by June 15 .
The statement further clarified that the books left undistributed with the ZEO offices last year were very few and it occured due to poor enrolment compared to the previous year.
A total of 26,251 books were left with the BOSEM last year and the board is releasing the left over stock for onward distribution to the schools, the statement added.
