MPP names candidate, BJP invites nominees

Even though the State Election office is yet to come out with an official notification, almost all the major political parties in the State have geared up for the ensuing by-election to Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency in Thoubal district which has been necessitated following the demise of its sitting MLA Maibam Kunjo Singh.
On Monday, Manipur People's Party (MPP) named its Vice-President Mayengbam Amutombi as the candidate for the by-poll.
The decision to field Amutombi, a former Agriculture Officer who contested the Assembly election in 2012 from Hiyanglam A/C on MPP ticket was said to have been taken during a meeting of the Working Committee of the Party.
It may be noted here that Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC) had already announced its decision to field own candidate in the by-election.
Party president Th Shyamkumar on Saturday told media that the name of the party candidate would be announced after the election notification was issued.
Meanwhile, announcing that it also would contest in the ensuing by-election to 38-Hiyanglam A/C, which has fallen vacant due to expiring of its sitting MLA M Kunjo Singh, BJP Manipur Pradesh has informed all interested persons who intent to fight the election and seek party's nomination to submit their application on or before September 15 .
In a notification, State General Secy (Administration) BJP Manipur Pradesh M Asnikumar Singh further informed that interested candidates may also submit their details to his office.
In another notification, Asnikumar clarified that BJP is not a party to the United Political Forum, Nungba Kendra (UPFNK) nor any member of BJP attended in the political consultative meeting reportedly held at Thanagong community hall at Khoupum on August 21 during which BJP, NPF and NCP allegedly resolved to put up a consensus candidates in Nungba A/C for the next MLA election.
Moreover, BJP is not an ally of the NPF and MSCP and the members of BJP Nungba Mandal are advised not to join the so-called UPFNK, otherwise appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken up against such person, the notification added.
