Police today hinted that the frequent attacks and threats to mobile service providers are likely to be reduced after they arrested three activists of KCP (Malemnganba) group including a woman, masterminds of bomb attacks on mobile towers.
The three activists were among nine activists of three different factions of KCP nabbed by the Imphal West police commandos in separate counter insurgency operations launched at different places in the last two days.
With the arrest of the nine activists, police claimed that they had foiled a planned series of terror bids when they seized bombs, arms and ammunition from the nine cadres of the three KCP factions during cordoned and search operations at various places.
I/W DSP, Ibomcha said sources informed the police that militants were transporting explosives and arms with ammunition to carry out a series of attacks at mobile phone towers in Imphal areas.
Police beefed up security and in intensified operations arrested nine KCP cadres including a woman cadre, said the officer who is supervising police commandos in Imphal West district.
Police recovered two .32 pistols loaded with two magazines with two live rounds each, 17 demand letters and eight blank demand letters, three line seals and one round seal and three mobile sets.
Rabichandra alias Tachou alias Tamo alias Thoiba, Brajamani alias Inao and Sapam Gita alias Abe (30) wife of Late S Nongdamba of Wabagai were nabbed yesterday around 3.30 pm from Singjamei Thongam Leikai, Imphal, around 3.30 pm.
Malemganba had instructed Robindro to launch a series of attacks on Airtel towers.
He had distributed hand grenades to the cadres of the group to carry out the plan, the SDPO added.
Five of the cadres belonged to KCP (KK Mangang) group and were arrested on Sunday around 2 pm during an operation at Uyumpok in Thoubal district based on a specific input and police recovered one Chinese hand grenade, one 9 mm pistol magazine, one HE hand grenade lever and a type writer.
Chaoba alias Ibotomba (30), Rajen (30), Manisana alias Tomba, Brojen (34) and Amarjit were working under Pari alias Merajao and Rocky of KCP (KK Mangang).
Merajao is currently in Nepal while Rocky had come back from Nepal recently.
Rocky had collected ' 50,000 from a Pastor named Rajmohon of Langol, ' 7,000 from Tata Magic vehicles plying along Imphal Keibi road and also served one demand letter to Dr Rupachandra of Akampat.
Under instructions of Merajao, he along with four followers had planned to lob a bomb at the house of an individual at Langol in connection with an extortion demand.
Amarjit had obtained three hand grenades from one Rajenpao of Porompat, and had distributed two of them.
Brojen arranged shelter for the UGs and deposited the extorted money to an account of Thoiba to be sent to Merajao, SDPO Ibomcha said.
A cadre of KCP (Noyon) was also arrested with a 9 mm pistol along with one magazine and five 9mm ammunition by the police commandos from his residence at Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, Imphal.
He was identified as Oinam Robindro (31) alias Roshan.
He was arrested on an input provided by 116 BSF and was involved in the bomb attack at the residence of Executive Engineer Ranbir of Singjamei Super Market in which a Havildar of 7th MR was killed and one rifleman was inflicted with injuries.
He had recently collected ' 20 lakhs from Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) and Minor Irrigation (MI) and the money was sent to Noyon who is currently in Nepal.
