Imphal, December 02 2011:
President of BJP Manipur Pradesh Sh Shantikumar Sharma has categorically observed that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who have not said a single word to console the people of Manipur while they were reeling under the impact of over 100 days long economic blockade, are coming to visit Manipur only to deceive the people by announcement of some economic packages with an eye on the upcoming Assembly election.
Speaking on the occasion of formally inducting Dr Nando, a proposed candidate of Trinamool Congress in the upcoming Assembly election from Uripok A/C, into the fold of BJP at the party office here today, Shantikumar questioned why Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson should be visiting to inaugurate some buildings when the election is approaching.
Where were they and what were they doing when the people of Manipur were suffering under the impact of prolonged economic blockade of SHDDC and counter economic blockade of UNC ?, he demanded to know.
He recalled that it was a team of BJP Manipur Pradesh, who moved by the suffering of the people, went to Delhi and along with other national leaders of the party called on the Prime Minister himself to highlight the plight of the people.
In that meeting, it was proposed to the Prime Minister for sending a central team including representatives of Opposition parties to assess the situation in Manipur.
But Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh did not say yes or no apart from assuring that the situation is being monitored on daily basis.
Not long ago, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram came to Manipur, and taking advantage of inaugurating some buildings at Senapati, a closed door meeting was held along with UNC and the Chief Minister and left without saying anything about the problems being faced by the people, Shantikumar alleged.
Now the issue of Supra-state proposal to the NSCN (IM) has come up.
Although the Union Home Minister has reportedly given assurance to the Chief Minister that there is no such proposal, the Seven Sisters Post dubbed the Union Home Minister a liar and produced documents to prove him wrong.
Why no action has been taken up against the newspaper if the report of the newspaper was baseless?, he further questioned, and demanded Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to clarify over the issue during their proposed visit.
In case of failure, the people of Manipur would be convinced of the hidden agenda behind the Supra-state body issue, Shantikumar added.
