Chandel, March 02 2016:
Chandel district hospital is not functioning as it should be, said
the Committee on Protection of Tribal Rights (CoPoTR) advi-
sor Ts Beton.
Ts Beton said that CoPoTR along with Maha Area
Chiefs' Association (MACA) visited the district hospital
and found that due to lack of proper quarter for doctors and
medical staff members, only 14 doctors and 11 medical
staff nurses have been attending the patients.
Besides shortage of medicines, there are no blood test
and X-ray facilities in the hospital.
One of the staff nurses said that the hospital has been
running short of medicines due to its irregular supply.
The
hospital does not even have hand gloves and cotton.
With
no proper site for wastes disposal, the surrounding has
caused serious impacts on health and problems to the sur-
rounding environment.
CoPoTR said that the team also visited the CMO,
Chandel office.
When enquired about the shortage of medi-
cines in the district hospital, the CMO said that medicines,
which are usually supplied by the National Health Mission,
have not been delivered for quite some time now thus
leading to lack of medical services in the hospital.
The team also visited a dispensary under the Chandel
ADC and came across only one staff nurse.
CoPoTR said that people of Chandel are in urgent need
of proper medical services.
Lack of medical facilities should
be provided by the authority concerned at the earliest con-
sideration the hardships faced by the people.
