Imphal, March 02 2016:
The order of the Manipur High Court, which declared the election of M Prithiviraj Singh from Moirang Assembly Constituency in 2012 as null and void has been stayed for four weeks by the same Court today.
The stay order was passed by the same bench of Justice N Kotishwar after Prithiviraj filed a petition seeking a stay order to give him time for approaching the Supreme Court against the earlier judgement.
The earlier order was passed following a petition filed by P Saratchandra, the rival of M Prithiviraj in the 2012 Assembly election who alleged that he (Prithiviraj) had falsely claimed in his election affidavit that he got a degree in Master of Business Administration from Mysore University.
The 2012 election was a straight contest between Saratchandra and Prithiviraj in Moirang Assembly Constituency and the latter had emerged victorious.
Addressing reporters, Sh Poireiton, lawyer of Prithiviraj said that the same bench of the Manipur High Court has stayed the earlier order for four weeks and admitted that the MBA degree claim in the affidavit was a mistake.
Poireiton claimed that Prithiviraj did a course in PG Programme in Service Industries Management in 2004 at ITFI, Chandigarh.
Following the earlier ruling of the High Court, Prithiviraj had not attended the ongoing Assembly session.
