Kangpokpi, March 02 2016:
Strongly opposing the alleged imposition of first language on students, the Hill Districts Private Schools' Association, Manipur has lodged a complaint to the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur yesterday.
Seikhojam Kipgen, general secretary, HIDIPSAM said that three languages formula adopted by the Union Government came after a negotiation between the stakeholders.
Since Manipur is a multi-culture, multi-lingual State, language learning has also become very complex.
Imposing a language just on the basis of one's caste and tribe will undo the binding force of all communities, he said.
He further said that the matter of imposing language-learning has been an issue thereby causing inconveniences to students of hill areas.
Meanwhile, a reliable source informed that there are hundreds of candidates who have opted for first language but were forced to write the papers which were not taught in the schools.
"It would be called a harassment if a Nepali candidate who had opted for Additional English is forced to write Nepali which he or she cannot read nor write.
Similarly, if a Meitei or Thadou Kuki candidates who studied Additional English are forced to write the Board exam in Meitei Mayek or Thadou-Kuki, it is obviously not a good step.
HIDIPSAM urged BOSEM to consider the academic career of the students and take the rightful step, he added.
