Ukhrul, July 01, 2012:
Even as police and MR are keeping vigils at 'Zero Point', the Tangkhul bodies have out-rightly condemned the Saturday's violence in which three villagers from Sihai Khullen were killed at Phangrei hill and called for sanity to prevail among the feuding villages.
In separate statements on Sunday, Tangkhul Naga Atung Longphang (TNAL) and Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL) strongly condemned the violent act that led to the loss of three lives from Sihai Khullen and left few others injured.
"On Saturday afternoon, the act committed by our brethrens upon our brethrens at Phangrei was totally inhuman and invites strong condemnation," TNAL president Tearson Chamroy said.
He also decried the conduct of Lunghar villagers and called for sanity to prevail among the villagers.
In a similar note, RKL President Kapangsing condemned the bloody act and appealed to both the villages to maintain utter restraint.
TNAL and RKL also condoled the unfortunate demise of K Reiton, K Pamreiyo and K Ramung, while conveying its prayers to the bereaved families and departed souls.
Meanwhile, in a precautionary measure, a joint team of police and Manipur Rifles (MR) has reportedly stationed at Zero Point, Phangrei - the site of Saturday's violence, to keep a vigil after tension escalated among the feuding villages.
According to official report, the joint team has been deployed at Zero Point since yesterday, and would continue to keep vigil till the tension subsides.
This afternoon, representatives from various Tangkhul bodies visited both the villages to take further stock of the prevailing situation.
Till Sunday evening, there were no reports of further incidents even as high tension prevails among the villagers of the two feuding villages since Saturday.
Last evening, district administration also took pre-emptive steps after receiving reports that the clash may also spilled into Ukhrul town-where many villagers from Lunghar and Sihai are staying.
