Scores of women took out a moped rally against drag abuse from Kwakeithel to Nambol and again from Nambol to Keishampat, today.
The rally was co-organised by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLAMPAM) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA).
Placards that read "Chathok Puthokpham Oiriba Labuk Lamhangsing Nisha Puthokpham Oihangumsi", "Manipur asi Nishagi Changakpham amasung Yonfam Oihangumsi", "Nisha Thingnaba Leiriba Leingaki Loishangsing Niyom Chumna Mathou Tou", "Eeshing Echao Araibani, Nishagi Echaona Lubani" and "Nishagi Laangdagi Tunggi Yumbising Kallasi" were used during the rally.
After the meeting, a meeting was convened in the presence of PLAMPAM president Longjam Memchoubi, AMAWOVA president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani and All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) president Nando Luwang.
Delivering a keynote address, AMAWOVA secretary Ksh Sujata said that the drugs menace in the State is alarming and requires immediate intervention.
Drug abusers not only harm themselves but also their friends, families and the society at large, she added.
Nando Luwang said that the initiative taken up by the sisters and mothers is very appropriate as the number of drug abusers in the State is increasing rapidly.
He also said that more men becoming drug addicts could lead to population shrinkage.
Nando Luwang then appealed to all to fight against drug smuggling and abuse to save the State.
