Imphal, February 29 2012:
The Communist Party of India (CPI), which is partner in the ruling coalition SPF government for the last two terms, has withdrawn support from the government.
Announcing withdrawal from the Congress led SPF government at Irabot Bhawan here today, Dr M Nara, Secretary, CPI, Manipur State Council, said that CPI has been compelled to withdraw from the SPF government considering various complaints from the people over maladministration of the government, failure of giving justice to the people and the prevailing law and order situation.
Dr Nara further said that CPI became a coalition partner thinking that SPF government would proceed with some development programmes for the welfare of the people under its Common Minimum Programme, which was announced in 2002.However, all these have been belied.
He also charged the Congress led SPF government with sidelining and not consulting CPI over any of the issues concerning the welfare of the state and its people.
The SPF government has not been able to provide good governance to the people, Dr Nara alleged, while recalling that CPI had earlier resigned from the post of the Convener of the SPF government over the same issue.
The CPI has taken the decision of withdrawing support from the SPF government after several rounds of meetings within the party and the CPI state unit has taken the approval of the National leaders yesterday, he informed.
Dr Nara further informed that Agriculture Minister, Ph Parijat and Chairman of MANIDCO, N Mangi too have resigned from their respective posts and formal resignation letters addressed to the Chief Minister would be submitted along with the resignation letter of the Party as a whole.
Ph Parijat, who was also present in the press conference, said that members of CPI always abide by the decision of Central command and hence he resigned from the Ministership.
Most of the political parties which were partners in SPF-I government have been swallowed up by the Congress and the people have even started suspecting the ideology of CPI over continued partnership with the Congress, Parijat said, and assertd that CPI would never compromise with its ideology and would remain as CPI forever.
He observed that even if there is Congress led government in the next term, it would not be of any matter to CPI which would continue to work for the betterment of the people.
CPI may also form a non-Congress government in the state, Parijat added.
MLA N Mangi was also present during the press conference.
