Guwahati, January 08 2010:
Toeing a different line from his chief Paresh Barua, ULFA ''vice chairman'' Pradip Gogoi today said the group is not against intellectuals and believes the 30 year-old insurgency issue in Assam can only be solved with people''s cooperation.
Opposing the threat to intellectuals by Barua, Gogoi said, "I do not know why he (Barua) gave this statement.
But we are not against intellectuals and seek their views and cooperation at all levels." Barua had sent an e-mail to the media on January six threatening security personnel, intellectuals, Hindi-speaking people and their sympathisers.
"The intelligentsia, senior citizens, students and all sections of the society should think, analyse and help in resolving Assam''s problems," the interned ULFA leader said.
The group has full faith in the people of the state and it is confident that with their support it would find a negotiated political settlement, Gogoi told reporters when he was taken to Guwahati Medical College Hospital for treatment.
