A two refresher course for the drivers of heavy vehicles conducted as part of National Road Safety Week organised by the Manipur Drivers Training and Research Centre was opened today.
The fresher course was conducted under the sponsorship of the Union ministry of road transport and highway.
The opening function was graced by inspector Shyam of traffic police as chief guest, president of the Manipur Driving School, H Dilipkumar as president and president of the Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Driver and Motors Workers Society, Dhaka as guest of honour.
Secretary of the Manipur Driving School Shantikumar observed that with the increase of population, the number of vehicles on the road also increasing so also the number of accident.
In the context of the globe, 1.40 lakh occurred per day and claiming 3000 people each day while another 15,000 handicapped by the accident.
