A discussion on making education a "free zone" was held today at CC Higher Secondary School, Sanjenthong remembering the first anniversary of the mass rally held last year on this day on July 5 in Imphal with the demand not to give any kind of disturbances at educational institutes and make free from all sort of disturbances.
The discussion was organized by the Observation Committee on Free Education Zone and moderated professor N Joykumar of MU history department.
T Rameshwor, president AMESTA, Th Ibopishak, Md Nabakumar, Dr Ibomcha, Dr M Balram, professor M Dhaneshwor, Th Manibabu,Sangreipam, I Jamesbond Mangang, L mohen took part in the discussion.
Ch Sheelaramani, reader, DM College of Arts, speaking on the occasion said that education is one of most important sectors, in other countries, a huge funds invested for developing the sector.
Revealing that around 5000 students of the state obtained migration certificates for going outside the state for further study, she said it is part of seeking better education considering that educational institutes in the state lack quality.
M Debendro taking part in the discussion presented his paper on impacts given to education sector by extortion and corruption and Y Rameshwor on role of politicians i n education system.
He said, education involves in every works of life.
Education is the deciding factor of the status of the society.
So, government should give priority to education sector, he demanded.
Ch Nabakumar expressed concerned over the lack of interest by the government in the education sector and urged state government to make a vision policy network.
Ahmed Ali who also took part in the discussion said that the view of not success any kinds of bandhs and blockade when education sector is kept outside the purview of these forms of protest need to be rectified first.
