Imphal, September 29 2012:
Claiming responsibility for the multiple bomb attacks on 24 Assam Rifles at Kwatha Khunou Lamkhai yesterday, the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has categorically stated that it was a lesson for Assam Rifles for creating inconveniences and sense of insecurity among innocent people of the surrounding villages.
In a statement signed by its Senior Publicity Secretary, Ksh Yoiheiba, UNLF claimed that the attack which claimed two AR personnel and injured five others was carried out by a fighting patrol of the mobile battalion of its armed wing, Manipur People's Army (MPA).
There are high possibilities of increasing death toll among the injured personnel.
The outfit alleged that Assam Rifles has been establishing posts at civilian areas in order to use innocent people as their shield against attacks of revolutionary organisations.
The multiple bomb attacks took the AR personnel by surprise and they were out of their wit to fight back.
Knowing the situation, the fighting patrol of MPA was advancing to take seized the arms and ammunition of the death and the injured personnel but they stepped back on witnessing civilian casualties.
Reacting to the statement of PRO IGAR (S) who claimed that the attack was not an act of courage, UNLF countered that by observing the PRO might be thinking that fake encounters carried out by Assam Rifles and killing of innocent civilians are acts of valour.
Urging the people of the state not to cooperate with security forces and raise their voice to oust the security forces from civilian area, UNLF also apologised to the people of the state and Kwatha village for the civilian casualties in the bomb attacks and shared the pain and sorrows of the victims and their families.
