Imphal, June 28 2012:
In a glaring example of negligence by the state government, the offices of SDO and SDPO in Jessami village under Chingai Assembly Constituency of Ukhrul district remain non-operational till date, even though the said offices have been inaugurated by state Chief Minister and Union Home Minister in November last year.
Moreover, the Health Centre in the volatile border village has only one Pharmacist, one Nurse and one watchman.
As it is the season of outbreak of many common illnesses and diseases, people of the village and surrounding areas are facing a major problem.
Decrying over the negligence of the government, Village Chairman Ayete Shimray told Hueiyen Lanpao that people of the village and its surounding areas are facing a lot of problems while trying to get proper medication in times of sickness.
In the absence of any doctors, the villagers have to get advice from the nurse and the pharmacist in case of sickness.
Even though there is not much problem with regard to treatment of minor common illness, it becomes a serious problem in case of major or serious illnesses.
On the other hand, the SDO and SDPO offices which were inaugurated last year have been remaining neglected by the government without even a caretaker or a chowkidar to look after them.
The offices have been constructed under Manipur Development Society (MDS), but they remained shut down and non-operational so far.
There is also no fencings and toilet facilities, the village chief disclosed.
