MPP welcomes IPTF leaders

Manipur People's Party (MPP) on Saturday felicitated the visiting members of Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPTF), a local political party formed only by the indigenous people of Tripura.
MPP members showed brotherhood to the visiting IPTF leaders who were also presented with Meitei khudei (loincloth) at the function held at MPP office, near Pologround Imphal.
At a press meet that was held as a part of the function, MPP president N Sovakiran introduced IPTF president MC Deb Burman and general secretary Aghor Deb Burman to the mediapersons.
Sovakiran said that IPFT is a constituent member of North East Regional Political Party Forum and applauded its contribution to safeguarding the indigenous people of the NE region, their customs and traditions.
The MPP chief further blamed the present Centre and State Governments for taking up developmental projects solely for profits keeping aside the sense of nationalism and patriotism.
He accused both the Governments of not taking interest in protecting the identity, boundary and culture of the Mongoloid-race NE people.
A local political party, IPFT aims to protect the identity and interest of Tripuris and the party will contest the upcoming Tripura ADC Elections in 28 seats.
N Sovakiran also opined that only regional parties will succeed in protecting the identity of the indigenous peoples of NE region.
Chief Advisor of MPP, Dr L Chandramani recounted the closeness and love that Manipur and Tripura maintained in the past and cited the matrimonial alliances of the then two kingdoms.
"Both the States merged with the Indian Union in 1949.However, Tripura today suffered from losing the identity of its indigenous people caused by short-sightedness of the then Governments and influx of migrants into the State," Dr Chandramani said.
IPFT president MC Deb Burman also reiterated the close relations of the two States and said that the sole objective of forming IPFT is to protect the Tripuris.
The party has decided to contest the ADC election of Tripura to be held on May 3 .
Burman added that all the regional parties of the North East region have already worked together with a common objective to protect the interests of the indigenous peoples of the region.
