Transporter bodies join ILP protest

Sit-in protests and rallies were staged in different parts of the valley districts on Wednesday demanding the Government to introduce a new ILP Bill in the Manipur Assembly aimed at protecting the indigenous people.
The protesters also demanded that those police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood should be punished.
Sapam Robinhood, a Class XI student, was killed when police used tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse a large number of student protesters on July 8 .
Members of 12 different transporters' organizations staged sit-in at the Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Mamang Sega Road community hall.
They said all transport bodies would launch a cease-work strike on July 24 to demand implementation of ILPS.

A spokesperson appealed to all vehicle owners and drivers to stop service along all National Highways by joining the ILP protest spearheaded by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) .
Singjubung Women Welfare Association organized demonstration at Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak and women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel protested at Uripok Chakrikom.
They shouted slogans demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur and punishment to all police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood.
A massive rally was held by members of meira paibi organizations of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai and Naorem Leikai.
The women protesters demanded that ILPS should be introduced.
They also demanded punishing all police personnel who are accused of killing Sapam Robinhood, a Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, Nongmeibung.
When the rally reached Singjamei Police Station along the Imphal-Moreh road, the police attempted to stop them.
But the protesters continued with their march telling the police they were taking out a democratic procession.
The rally started from Singjamei market and culminated at Kakwa Naorem Leikai where the women demonstrators also formed human chain. Singjamei Apunba Lup also staged a sit-in near Singjamei bridge and demanded immediate enforcement of ILPS in Manipur.
