Discussion on media, AFSPA held

Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi jointly organised a day-long brain storming session on "From the Front Lines: Reporting and Reflecting on Life and Death in the North East" at Tagore Hall of the varsity today.
Senior journalists from North-East India presented papers on different topics and highlighted the pressures from both government and non-state (armed groups) forces on media persons and its reflection on working, living and reporting from Northeast India.
Highlighting how the media has been exploited by vested interests, the speakers also raised the issue of how state and non-state actors tried to use the media with their own goals.
The paper presentation was followed by a panel discussion on "AFSPA: the Vanishing" .
