MP Rishang Keishing feted

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today felicitated its MP in Rajya Sabha Rishang Keishing, who is also the member of the first Parliament session in 1952, on completion of 60 years of Indian Parliament, during a function held at Congress Bhavan here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that Rishang Keishing is one of the most prominent politicians who was elected to the first Parliament of the country.
Recognising their contributions to Indian politics, the Prime Minister of India had felicitated Rishang Keishing along with some other MPs.
It is the contribution of such politicians like Rishang Keishing that Congress has been a successful political party in the state since early days.
He has remained commitment to Congress all along, Ibobi said.

In his address, Rishang Keishing observed that Congress is a party which is dedicated to the welfare of the people.
Being the most powerful party, members of the party should also maintain discipline.
It is the people dedicated initiatives of the party that people have their repose their trust on the party and supported it on various occasions.
In such a situation, the party should not delay in taking up developmental projects for the welfare of the people.
On the other hand, people of the state should also put their efforts towards maintaining the fame of Manipur as a paradise on earth.
THe Government and the people should walk hand in hand for a peaceful and developed society, he said.
Home Minister Gaikha-ngam, who also spoke at the occasion, described Rishang Keishing as a prominent politician and said that it is very fortunate for Congress to have such politician as its member.
Rishang Keishing was honoured by presenting a shawl by the Chief Minister.
MPCC President Gaikha-ngam, Vice President S Achouba and other prominent Congress leaders also honoured him with gifts.
A book entitled "Biography of Veteran Politician Rishang Keishing" was released by the Chief Minister to mark the occasion.
Born on October 25, 1919 at Bungpa Khunou village under Kamjong Sub Division in Ukhrul district, Rishang Keishing is the son of late Rungdi Keishing and Mungsing Keishing.
He is married to Khatingla and has four sons and two daughters.
He became MP in 1952 after winning the Parliamentary election as a candidate of Indian Socialist Party.
He became President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee in 1978 .
He was appointed as the Chief Minister of Manipur in November 1980 .
