Churachandpur, September 06 2012:
For the fourth estate in the hills of Manipur, the 28th Anniversary of Manipur Hills Journalists' Union (MHJU) to be observed on September 7 would be a new beginning as there will be formal pledge taking among the hill-based journalists to work under a common fraternity.
On Friday, MHJU will be observing the 28th Anniversary at Lamka Press Club and it will witness attendance from journalists of different hill districts namely Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong and Churachandpur.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare Phungzathang Tonsing will grace the celebration as chief guest.
The other dignitaries to be attended on the occasion include HAC Chairman Chaltonlien Amo and a host of MLAs comprising TN Haokip, T Manga Vaiphei, Ginsuanhau, Vungzagin Valte and the ADC members.
This time, the 28th Anniversary would be historic as journalists from all the hill districts would make an official decision to join hands and work under a single organisation.
In this regard, an understanding had been reached earlier after an MHJU team undertook a mobilisation tour to some hill districts and held discussion with the other press fraternities.
Till now, the MHJU is a body largely comprising journalists from Churachandpur, while the unions in other districts remain as separate entity.
MHJU president Th Thangzalian felt that the basic tenet to bring all the hill journalists is to encourage one another in pursuing objective journalism and ensure the welfare of the press fraternity.
This afternoon, the visiting journalists were taken for a tour to various places of interest in and around the Churachandpur town.
The team also met Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus and ADC chairman Langkhanpau Guite, whoboth lauded the cooperation of the public in making the district far ahead of the others in the hills of Manipur.
