Govt to own financial expenditure for students in govt schools

The state education department is discussing to own up all the financial expenditure of students who study in government schools, said Additional Director (Valley), Education (S), Chandra Bahadur in a felicitation function for teachers held at GM Hall, Imphal.
The function organised by the All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA) Zone 1 honoured retired teachers and families of deceased teachers within the zone.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Chandra Bahadur said that the department is planning to take up many schemes and policy to assist the Right to Education Act (RTE) as the act has been implemented in the state.
He said that the department has given the right and duty of printing and distribution of textbooks to the BSEM.
The state is facing acute shortage of textbooks at present.
He appealed to the people of the state to solve the matter.
Mizoram has already set up an Education Commission.
Manipur also need such education commission to develop education sector in the state.
There are many provisions under the RTE which the state has yet to implement fully.
As soon as the act is fully implemented in the state, a major development in the education sector can be seen, he said.
Students are flocking at private schools in the state due to the carelessness of the teachers in the government schools.
Government teachers should do their duty with a sense of obligation to improve the image of government schools and provide free and quality education to the students of the state.
The department is also looking after the shortage of teachers in various schools throughout the state, Chandra Bahadur said.
