Discussion programme of all the Principals of colleges and technical institutions on "Central sector schemes of scholarship for college and university students for the academic session 2016-2017" was held at the Directorate of University and Higher Secondary office today.
The discussion programme was also attended by Th Chitra Devi, Chairperson, COHSEM cum Director of University and Higher Education, Manipur and Dr M Bidyasagar, Secretary, COHSEM.
Dr M Bidyasagar informed that though Central Sector Scheme of scholarship for college and university students has been implemented across the country under the Planning Department since 1961-62, the scheme could not be implemented successfully due to issue in disbursement of scholarship fund.
It was only after 2008 that the scheme was implemented successfully.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development is now planning to provide the scholarship to 82,000 students across the country of which 181 seats are allotted for the students of Manipur for the academic session 2016-2017 .
Though the quota for Manipur is 181, only 30 students have applied for the benefit.
The reason of conducting the discussion programme is to ensure that the quota available for the State is being utilised efficiently.
He also appealed to all the eligible students to apply for the scholarship.
