Imphal, September 21 2013 :
With one reason or the other hampering the progress of railway line construction in the North East particularly in Manipur, the target of North East Council (NEC) to connect all the capital cities of North Eastern States by rail by 2020 is unlikely to be achieved.
The process of constructing railways lines from Jiribam to Tupul is being taken up by two different companies.
The construction process from Lukhambi to Marangjing in Tamenglong district is being taken up by ECI.
At present the company engages more than 600 workers.
However, since the ECI has not provided wages for the last four months, the workers have launched a cease work strike since yesterday, thus, putting a complete halt on the construction process.

Among the workers involved in the cease work strike also included drivers and operators.
With the construction workers halting all machinery and non-machinery works, NEC is in no position to complete the railway line construction within the stipulated time.
A worker engaged in the railway line construction process informed Hueiyen Lanpao that they have been urging the concerned authorities of ECI to pay their due wages for the last four months.
The authorities have also promised to do the needful, but so far no payment has been made.
As a consequence, they have been compelled to launch the cease work strike.
The aggrieved workers also thronged the Noney Police Station yesterday and submitted a written complaint urging the police authorities to take up stringent actions against concerned officials of ECI.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister O Ibobi had assured the general public of Manipur that the railway line construction from Jiribam to Tupul would be completed latest by 2017 .
