Cancellation of Cl-X, XII exams discussed

Imphal, June 04 2021: In view of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation in the state, a meeting chaired by Education Minister S Rajen was convened on Friday to discuss whether to hold or cancel the Class X and XII examinations conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CoHSEM) and Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) respectively at the SSA conference hall, Babupara here.

The discussion was attended by education commissioner, chairmen of CoHSEM and BSEM, secretaries, examination controllers and directors of education department along with representatives of student organisations and private school bodies/associations.

Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, Education minister S Rajen informed that so far no decision has been taken to cancel the examinations.

During the meeting, various stakeholders and representatives related to the education sector shared their opinions on the matter, based on which the state government will be taking a concrete decision on the matter.

According to a source, majority of those who attended the meeting felt it would not be conducive to hold the examination amidst the pandemic.

On top of this, CBSE had already cancelled its Class X and XII examinations.

Conducting the examination could lead to spread of infection amongst the students.

Additionally, the examination schedule has been considerably delayed and as such, the examiners would be facing a huge time constraint in evaluating the answer scripts, not to mention about the issues concerning adherence to SOPs and the effects on the academic calendar.

Thus, most of them opined for cancellation of the examinations, the source added.
