Imphal, September 03 2022:
The School Management Committee (SMC) of Poiroukhongjin High School in Andro Assembly Constituency has alleged that the former Headmaster in-charge of the school has misappropriated the funds of the school.
In view of the above issue, the SMC has sought the attention of the Government to probe the matter and provide befitting punishment to all those involved in the misappropriation of the school development funds sanctioned by the Central and State Government.
Further the committee also appealed to the Government to help in returning the embezzled funds in the interest of the school and its students.
In connection with the matter, a joint meeting was held in the school today attended by the SMC members, teachers, students and their parents, village elders, local club members and officials of ZEO concerned.
During the meeting, it was discussed in length the current condition of the school and the welfare activities to be taken up.
Speaking to media persons, SMC member L Kunjaraj had informed that the Poiroukhongjin High School was selected for opening Atal Tinkering laboratory in 2019 under the centrally sponsored scheme to be built with a funding of around Rs 20 lakhs.
However some unknown persons have misused Rs 12 lakhs for the first phase in the name of the school, he alleged.
The matter came into light when a team of the department concerned came to the school to investigate over the non-submission of utilisation certificate for the sanctioned amount, he added.
Enlisting the alleged wrongdoings of the former Headmaster in-charge of the school, Kunjaraj maintained that during the tenureship of the former Headmaster in-charge, mid-day meals were not given properly, non-distribution of school uniforms, the alleged collection of admission fees and id card fees from the students and so on were done.
Despite repeated requests by the SMC to provide utilisation certificates of the school funds, the former headmaster in-charge has failed to do so, he added.
Therefore he appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest and investigate in a fair manner thereby providing befitting punishments to the perpetrators.
The convenor of SMC, L Suva while expressing concern over the shortage of teachers in the school, appealed to the authorities concerned and the Government to provide adequate teachers for the welfare of the school and for its effective functioning.
He also called for collective efforts for the development of the school.
