Village chief, womenfolk and youth leaders of Khongbal Tangkhul/Hongmahn village and two students' organizations have urged the State Government to intervene into the land dispute between the said village and Thingjang village and bring an amicable solution at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Khongbal Tangkhul village today, the village representatives lamented that the State Government has not taken up any positive step till date although their village headman Akhui Zimik (representing the villagers/citizens of the village) submitted a memorandum the Government on June 30 to intervene at the earliest.
Akhui Zimik, who was also present at the meet, claimed that he highlighted the disturbing and infuriating situation in the village after Yangkhohao Haokip, the chief of Thangjang village allegedly began encroaching Khongbal Tangkhul's "Maharani Lok" since 2007 and began cultivating poppy there.
He continued that Yangkhohao Haokip backed by the villagers of his village kept continuing with his poppy plantations despite repeated pleas and requests from the village authorities of Khongbal Tangkhul village.
Akhui Zimik asserted that the situation may turn ugly if the Government does not intervene regarding at the earliest and bring an amicable solution.
DESAM vice president N Edison Meitei and ATSUM president Vareiyo Shatsang who also attended the press meet urged the Government to intervene and do the needful.
They lauded the elders of Khongbal Tangkhul for pacifying the youth in the village and further, asked all the villagers to resolve the matter through peaceful dialogue.
