Imphal, July 01 2011:
All Manipur Hill Teachers' Association submitted a memorandum to Governor Gurbachan Jagat demanding revocation of an order of the State Government that directed change of nomenclature of School Management Committees (SMCs) under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and change of composition of SMC of the schools in hill districts.
The memorandum noted that appointing ADC Members as Chairmen of SMCs in their respective jurisdictions may bring unnecessary politicisation of education which had already been experienced in other parts of the country.
Denying to make Committee bank account operational jointly by the Headmaster and Executive Director of DRDA concerned the memorandum said that the primary objective of SSA is to empower those personnel who directly involve in the process of shaping the future of the students like teachers and parents/guardians and not the administrators.
The memorandum also suggested to form Super Committees to strictly monitor and review all the activities and functioning of the SMCs.
