NISHTHA-Integrated teachers training programme concludes

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam said that learning has always been independent of teaching.
Family, education and society are the tripod of learning.
The first learning happens in family, second at school and third happens in the society.
The concentration of learning is being focused only on schools but since school is only one sector for learning, it is therefore important that the two sectors- the family and society be made an integral part of the learning for an overall development, he said.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest in the valedictory function of NISHTHA (National Initiative for School Heads' and Teachers' Holistic Advancement)- Integrated Teachers Training for Key Resource Persons (KRPs) & State Resource Persons (SRPs), Manipur at the ICM Hall, Lamphelpat.
He said that in classroom transaction, if there is any unusual behaviour among the students during the class, it reflects the failure of communication of teacher with the students.
It can also be a sign that the student has failed to grasp or understand of what is being taught in the class.
Students need to understand the lesson being taught rather than rote.
It is very important to make the children curious, imaginative and innovative.
So, to achieve these, teachers also need to start thinking out of the box and be more creative rather than just repeating the same activities inscribed in books.
Director, NCERT, New Delhi, HK Senapaty pointed out that when the exams are based on the textual contents, the students in our country can score good marks.
But it becomes difficult for the students to score in terms of understanding and aptitude when asked beyond the textual content.
It is, therefore, important that the students are trained to develop critical thinking and build confidence.
Right type of training and motivation for the teachers are also required.
He also pointed out the need to link what is being taught in the classrooms to what is happening outside the classrooms for development of socio-personal qualities.
There is a need to make the classrooms more vibrant to make the students become more enthusiastic towards learning.
National Coordinator NISHTHA, Prof Ranjana Arora, DCS/NCERT said that NISHTHA means 'commitment' .
Highlighting about the training conducted she said that a total of 120 trainees were trained.
NISHTHA will help in improving education.
The trained KRPs and SRPs will be providing training to teachers at the block levels.
NISHTHA is a capacity building programme for "Improving Quality of School Education through Integrated Teacher Training" .
It aims to build competencies among all the teachers and school Principals at the elementary stage.
The functionaries (at the State, district, block, cluster level) shall be trained in an integrated manner on learning outcomes, school based assessment, learner � centred pedagogy, new initiatives in education, addressing diverse needs of children through multiple pedagogies, etc.
The programme was attended by Commissioner, SCERT, H Gyan Prakash, Commissioner, School Education, T Ranjit Singh, Director Education(S), Th Kirankumar, Director ICM, Dr N Ranjana Devi, Director, SCERT, Dr Menakumari Devi, officials concerned and teachers.
