Imphal, September 16 2013:
Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh has categorically observed that the confusion and restlessness, the feeling of insecurity brought about among the indigenous settlers following the Indo-Myanmar border imbroglio calls for a serious thinking and immediate attention by those in authority.
In a statement issued by its President Jangmang Haokip noted that since long there have been criminal activities from across the border.
The people of Moreh constantly live in fear.
Crimes ranging from monetary demand to killing of innocent civilians in broad daylight at Moreh have been the order of the day.
But the criminals escape through the porous border towards the neighbouring country and the Indian security forces could do little.
All these have compelled HTC and other public leaders of Moreh to make repeated request to the concerned authority for constructing the border security fencing along the border mainly to protect the public.
"The efforts seem to bear fruit with the construction taking shape but utterly contradicting our expectation.
Be it the border fencing or security fencing, the ongoing construction work in the middle of our villages, thereby dividing our land between the two countries is beyond tolerance.
We cannot accept protection at the cost of our land.
We remain Indian and want to remain in India.
Why should the Indian Government barter us to an alien country without our consent?," Jangmang Haokip questioned.
He demanded that proper and thorough demarcation of the land (boundary) between India and Myanmar should be made and the ongoing construction work be stopped immediately until the actual boundary is ascertained.
