JNIMS doctor suspended in nurse assault case

Imphal, June 11 2021:
Following a complaint by JNIMS nursing community of allegedly assaulting a female nurse posted at the hospital Covid Ward No 3 by one Dr Pangambam Bohnson, the state health authority has suspended the doctor with immediate effect.
The order issued by principal secretary of Health and Family Welfare V Vumlunmang stated that the suspension has been made after an enquiry against Dr Bohnson, a medical doctor, who was appointed on daily honorarium basis in the hospital.
The principal secretary, who is also the chairman of EC JNIMS Society, in the order further stated that during the suspension period, Bohnson's headquarters shall be at Imphal and he will not leave the headquarters without prior permission of JNIMS authority.
"Dr Pangambam Bohnson shall continue to be under the administrative control of JNIMS and should abide by conduct rules," said the order.
According to sources, the nurse manhandled by Dr Bohnson is a staff nurse named Lhingneivah Haokip.
Mention may be made that in condemnation of the incident, JNIMS nurses launched impromptu protest in front the director's office and demanded thorough investigation so as the initiate punitive action against the guilty person(s) .
The incident happened on Wednesday and was captured on CCTV.
Later, the footage went viral, after which the JNIMS management came to know about the matter.
Consequently, JNIMS director Prof Th Bhimo Singh instructed the medical superintendent, doctors in charge of COVID-19 ward 3 and other officials to hold an inquiry into the matter and submit a report.
In the suspension order, principal secretary V Vumlunmang said that the inquiry against Dr Bohnson is complete and he has been put under suspension from duty with immediate effect.
Dr Bohnson shall not be entitled to any emoluments during the duration of the suspension, it added.
